About CheckedHomePros
CheckedHomePros is a directory and matching service operated by Velocity Ridge Holdings LLC. We connect homeowners with vetted, licensed local home-service professionals. We don't perform any of the work ourselves, we pre-screen the contractors who do.
We started with HVAC in Phoenix Metro because it's a market where homeowner stress is real (an AC failure in 110°F heat is a medical concern), the price spread between contractors is wild ($5k+ on the same install), and the existing review platforms don't separate "paid for placement" from "actually vetted."
We think the right model is simple: pre-screen contractors against a clear, public bar, send each homeowner up to 3 matched quotes, and stay out of the contract between them. We charge contractors a per-lead fee. Homeowners pay nothing. We turn down a lot of contractors.
Who runs this
Hi, I'm Romain. I built CheckedHomePros end to end and I run it day to day. Before this I spent a decade in software product roles, the last few years focused on marketplace mechanics: matching, pricing, fraud, and the unglamorous backend of trust.
I built CheckedHomePros after watching three friends in Phoenix get burned on AC replacements in the same summer. Two paid 40% over fair-market because they were quoted at 11pm on a Saturday when their unit died. One paid the right price, then waited 17 days for parts because the contractor had over-promised inventory. None of them had a way to get a real second opinion fast.
Pre-screening is what we sell. Every pro in the network goes through a checklist that covers active license (verified at the state level against the claim), insurance proof, a Google review floor (≥4.5★, ≥50 reviews), and a 90-day re-audit. We turn down most contractors who apply. That's the product.
Questions, complaints, or you want to challenge how we vet? Write me at hello@checkedhomepros.com. For contractors interested in joining, the bar is documented at For Contractors.
Our vetting methodology
Pre-screening contractors is the entire product. We turn away around 30% of applicants. The bar is documented as a public 9-point checklist at /vetting-standards/.
The checklist covers: active state license (verified at the source, not the claimed number), $1M general liability insurance with annual COI pull, workers comp on file, Google review floor of 4.5 stars with 50+ reviews, BBB profile in good standing, background check on the license qualifier, trade-specific certifications (EPA Section 608, NATE Core, AZ ROC C-39, Florida CILB qualifier and so on), permit-pull history from city open-data portals, and a 90-day re-audit cadence.
Initial vetting is easy. Anyone can pass a one-time check. The 90-day re-audit is what keeps the network honest: it catches lapsed insurance, expired licenses, and review-velocity changes that would otherwise let a previously good pro turn into a coin-flip.
